Doster Construction Company has broken ground on Jefferson County’s new coroner and medical examiner office in Birmingham, Alabama.

The facility includes a new single-story, 32,000 square foot building on a 9-acre site in southwest Birmingham. Site planning the building for privacy was paramount for a project of this nature. The building is separated into discreet but connected offices and medical examination space.

The design team from Poole and Company Architects selected the building’s materials to blend into its natural setting. Additionally, the building’s orientation incorporates ample natural light, outdoor gathering spaces, and energetic third spaces areas, creating a desirable workplace that promotes team collaboration and a place of respite.

“We are excited to be a part of this project with Jefferson County. We are also grateful for strong local participation from the design team and local trade partners. “We look forward to building a functional work environment for the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, which plays a pivotal role in serving the community,” said Doster Project Director, Manny Norrell.

Construction began in June and is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2025.
