October is Careers in Construction Month (CICM), a nationwide initiative dedicated to highlighting the numerous career opportunities within the construction industry. This month serves as a vital reminder of the essential role construction plays in shaping our communities and the exciting pathways available for aspiring craft professionals.

Construction Outlook: A Growing Need for Talent

The construction industry is facing a significant challenge. According to the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), the sector will need to attract 501,000 additional workers in 2024 to meet increasing demand, with nearly 454,000 new workers required in 2025. Michael Bellaman, ABC president and CEO, emphasizes that “not addressing the shortage will hinder improvements in our built environment and overall living standards.”

As job openings in construction remain historically elevated—averaging 377,000 per month—the urgency for skilled professionals has never been greater. With 1.9 million construction workers expected to leave the industry for other opportunities next year, it’s critical to inspire a new generation to join this vital field.
